The acronym IM&TE refers to inspection, measuring, and test equipment. This term includes all items that fall under a calibration or measurement management program. IM&TE items are typically used in applications where the measurement results are used to determine conformance to technical or quality requirements before, during, or after a process. Some organizations do not include instruments used solely to check for the presence or absence of a condition (such as voltage, pressure, and so on) where a tolerance is not specified and the indication is not critical to safety. Note: Organizations may refer to IM&TE items as MTE (measuring and testing equipment), TMDE (test, measuring, and diagnostic equipment), GPETE (general purpose electronic test equipment), PME (precision measuring equipment), PMET
(precision measuring equipment and tooling), or SPETE (special purpose electronic test equipment).
