Type A evaluation of measurement uncertainty is the statistical analysis of actual measurement results to produce uncertainty values. Both random and systematic error may be evaluated by Type A methods. (GUM, 3.3.3 through 3.3.5) Uncertainty can only be evaluated by Type A methods if the laboratory actually collects the data.
